Helix Pet Hospital is a full-service animal hospital and welcomes pet patients in need of routine medical, surgical, and dental care as well as being there for them in case of emergencies. Dr. Ryan Lorber has years of experience treating serious conditions and offering regular pet wellness care. Meet The Staff

  • Dr.
    Ryan Lorber
    Veterinarian

    Dr. Ryan Lorber has been practicing veterinary medicine for 11 years. He completed his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University in 2007. Originally a Cincinnati native, Dr. Lorber has been enjoying the California sunshine ever since graduating vet school. He originally practiced in Dana Point, and has been in San Diego for the last 6 years. He shares his home with his young spunky domestic short hair, Lily, two chickens, Red and Blackie, and a handsome 7 year old poodle mix named Baxter.

  • Janine
    RVT/Lead Technician

    Janine has been serving as a registered veterinary technician in San Diego since 2012.  She has worked in both general and specialty practices, but feels more at home in a general neighborhood practice.  Janine grew up in the Ocean Beach neighborhood, where her parents still live. 

  • Andrea
    Practice Manager

    A San Diego native, Andrea has been in the veterinary field for 17 years.  She has been with Helix Pet Hospital since late 2016.  She believes strongly in making both pets and their owners feel at home and safe in the hospital.  In her spare time Andrea enjoys crafting, home improvement and spending time with her family.  Andrea shares her home with her daughter,her boyfriend and their three cats: Starla, Stevie Nicks and Edco, and abearded dragon named Khaleesi, and Peaches and Buttercup, two young guinea pigs.

  • Patrick
    Veterinary Assistant

    Patrick has been with Helix Pet Hospital since early 2017. A San Diego native, he has always had a great love for all animals. When not at work, Patrick enjoys spending his free time with his baby, Golden Retriever Stella. Previous to joining the veterinary field, Patrick served in the Marines for 4 years.

  • Kristy
    Veterinary Assistant

     Kristy joined the Helix family in April of 2019. She has been working in veterinary hospitals since graduating from Pima Medical Institute in 2013. Kristy is an avid supporter of the arts and is always up for seeing live music or theatre. When notworking with animals, Kristy works with her family at their business in Ocean Beach, The OB Playhouse and Theatre Co. Kristy has always loved animals and shares her home with an equally animal loving boyfriend, Carlos and their two dogs; a very gregarious chihuahua mix named Dennis and a 'lapdog' Pitbull mix, Timber. Fun fact, Kristy's favorite food is Shabu Shabu.Kristy joined the Helix family in April of 2019. She had worked in the veterinary field for 6 years before joining our team. Kristy is an avid supporter of the arts and is always up for seeing a concert or checking out the latest play. When not working with animals Kristy works with her family at their theater company, the 'OB Playhouse'. Kristy has always been an animal lover and shares her home with a very gregarious long haired chihuahua named Dennis. Fun Fact: Kristy's favorite food is Shabu Shabu.

    Veterinary Assistant

    Aley was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. Aley has worked with animals for over 10 years. She started working with animals in Memphis in 2015 she moved to sunny San Diego, where she continued to work in the veterinary field. She shares her home with her lab, Daisy, and human son Tripp. Aley enjoys outdoor activities and watching college football. Fun Facts :Aley is obsessed with the T.V. show Friends.Aley was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up in Memphis, Tennessee.  Aley has worked with animals for over 10 years.  She started working with animals in Memphis, which is where she met her Husband, Steve.  In 2015 the Navy sent them to sunny San Diego, where she continued to work in the veterinary field.  Though Aley loves veterinary medicine and animals will always have a special place in her heart, she is currently in school pursuing human nursing.  She and Steve share their home with their three labs: Dax, Daisy and Sophie and their human son Tripp. Aley enjoys outdoor activities and watching college football.  Fun Facts: Aley is obsessed with the T.V. show Friends and would like to one day show a Chocolate Lab.

  • Trinity
    Veterinary Assistant

    Trinity was born in Pine Hurst, North Carolina. She moved to El Cajon, CA when she was 6 years old. While growing up she always had a furry friend by her side whether it was her hamsters, her mice, her rats, or her puppy Biscuit. After graduating high school, she moved to Descanso and then El Cajon with her significant other, Austin. They continue to live in their home surrounded by four legged children, including Biscuit the terrier mix, Bear the pittie/GSD mix, Brownie Gremlin the yorkie, Poco the cat, and Piddle the bearded Dragon. Fun facts: Trinity loves to cook, and her favorite thing to wear is cowboy boots.

  • Stephanie
    Veterinary Assistant

    Stephanie came to us as a PIMA student and has since graduated, joined our team and now is an RVT! She shares her home with two children and her husband Joshua. They have 2 cats, Gema and Gatito, also 2 dogs, Spunky and Bones, both pit bull mixes. Stephanie loves domestic animals, but would love to also work with wildlife.

  • Tigo
    Resident Reptile

    Tigo has been with the Helix Pet Hospital since 2013. She is a Leopard Gecko. Her favorite staff member is Andrea, as she always makes sure her room is the appropriate temperature and she is well stocked on snacks. Her hobbies include: napping in his den, eating crickets and eavesdropping on interesting cases.

  • Alonso

    Alonso came to us as a PIMA student, and after graduating in November 2019,we quickly asked him to join our team. Alonso shares his home with his girlfriend Jessica, an energetic Pug, T'challa and a leopard gecko named Zuko. Fun fact: Alonso always wears fun print socks.
